August is Romance Awareness Month

Since the beginning of time, romance has always been an extremely important part of love and relationships. While women have always wanted just a little more romance in their relationships, men seem to be always looking for the “little” something that will make a “big” difference to the “love” of their life.

Four simple things you can do to enhance the romance:

  1. Say “I Love You”
  2. Give him or her a “Sensual” kiss
  3. Give your significant other a “Hug”
  4. Try “Holding” hands in public

Here’s a “novel” idea to rekindle the passion.

“Read Romance Stories to Each Other”

You can cuddle up in bed in “sexy” lingerie (or in your birthday suit) and take turns reading the story.  This may turn you on, so you might want to re-enact the love scenes after you’ve finished reading.

Now is a great time to catch up on some reading—together. And there is a wide selection of romance (and erotic) novels that are available, depending on how hot and steamy you want to get.

P.S. Adding a “single” red rose and a “sexy” handwritten note will take you from passionate to breathtaking.

How’s that “idea” for a little something “off the beaten” path?

Seven Sentence Sunday with Cheryl Holloway

Seven Sentence Sunday

Once Upon a Time

Most of my readers enjoy Seven Sentence Sunday and often request the short stories.

I write a short story using only seven sentences. I also use this as a writing exercise in the writing workshops that I present.

Note: According to USA Today, at least 22 people died and 59 were injured after a suicide bomber detonated an improvised explosive device at a concert by the American pop star Ariana Grande at the Manchester Arena in northwestern England on Monday night.

This is dedicated to those parents who lost their children in the bombing.

Title: The Death of A Child

There are no words on this earth that can describe how a parent feels when they have to experience the death of their child.

The age of the child does not matter—whether an infant, a small child or an adult child.

The fact of the matter remains that the child was a special part of the parent.

I think, the strongest love on this earth is the love that a parent holds so deeply in their heart for their child.

The mourning period varies according to the person who is grieving.

The love for the child will remain in the heart of the parent, until they meet again—in Heaven.

To my daughter, Nichelle, rest in heaven, until I join you—someday.

The End

Keep in mind that this is fiction. 🙂

“Hello, my name is James Patterson,” said the voice on the phone.

He continued before I could say a word.

“I know you never expected a call from me, as famous as I am, but I’ve been given your name, as someone who can help me write a book.”

He paused again, as if waiting on me to say something, but I was in total shock.

“Cheryl, I want to write my memoir and they said that you are the best writer/editor in the U.S.”

“I know how to write fiction, but I don’t know how to write about my life, so, can you help me?”

As I said, “Yes, I can,” I woke up.

The End

Have a Great Writing Day!

Cheryl Holloway Says, “An Author Website is Your Billboard to the World!”

Banner Header_2016Google NewsFox News Logo

A Billboard is For Everyone to See What You Have to Say!

An Author Website is Your Billboard to the World!

If you are an author who is serious about your writing career, especially about making it a business and writing more than one book, then you need a website, so you can keep in touch with your readers and they can keep in touch with you. So, if you are a serious author, there is a requirement for you to have a website, because it is your billboard to the world!

Even in this age of social media, having a website is really very important to an author. Yes, having a website is one of the key ways readers can find out about new books by an author. Facebook and Twitter accounts help readers find an author, but in terms of new book discovery, author websites are much more influential and provide author credibility.

Nowadays, if you want to find an author, readers will usually just google their name. When you type in the author name, his or her website is the first thing that pops up. The first result in a Google search is reason enough to have an author website.

This visibility is priceless!

Having your own author website also gives you the opportunity to capture reader’s name and email address, so you can begin building your mailing list for future book releases or to build a newsletter list. The mailing list is extremely important for any author, new or established.  Readers who give you their name and email address are telling you that they are interested in you as an author and want to read your books.

If you have an author website, you can tell your readers facts about yourself that they may be interested in, which are not included in your bio. This creates a bond and friendship between the author and the reader. Today, many readers want connectivity with authors who write books that they love and cherish.

In a future blog post, I will share more information on an author website—a free website versus a paid website. Also, I will share more information on an author website with or without a blog connected to the website.

Just a thought…Authors Need A Website.

Let me know what you think about this topic.

Cheryl Holloway on International Pay It Forward Day April 28, 2017

Banner Header_2016Google NewsFox News Logo

International Pay It Forward Day

Today is International Pay It Forward Day and I pay it forward 365 days a year. I am Cheryl Holloway, author and writer, and I am always in the Pay-It-Forward spirit of gratitude,

As most of you know, I have been paying it forward to other authors for well over a decade. I began to pay it forward with the internet radio show, Just About Books Talk Show, where I provided a one-hour live interview with authors about their books. I started the show in 2005 because I had a hard time getting the information out about my book, A Forgotten Negro League Star: A Personal Look at Al Burrows.

Then, I started my blog in 2013 to promote my romance books: Cougar Tales: Father and Son; Cougar Tales: The Italian Basketball Player; Cougar Tales: Jamaican Love; The Proposal: A Leap of Faith; and A Sisterhood of Women Living Life: A Short Story Collection Book 1.  So, once again I decided to pay it forward with Guest Author Interviews for any author from unknown Indie authors to well-known celebrity authors.

Of course, I wanted to make sure that I interviewed the originator of Pay-It-Forward and asked Catherine Ryan Hyde to be a Celebrity Guest Author on my blog. She agreed and the rest is history.

You can read Catherine Ryan Hyde’s interview here: http://www.cherylholloway.net/blog/2014/07/25/celebrity-guest-author-interview-catherine-ryan-hyde/

Remember: Every act of kindness creates a ripple effect that spreads from person to person with no end in sight.

So, on my blog, I “Pay it Forward” to other authors by spotlighting them with a Guest Author Interview. I only ask that they too “Pay It Forward” to any other author.

Cheryl Holloway’s Personal Writing Thoughts for the New Year

Cheryl Holloway’s Personal Writing Thoughts for the New Year

Some of my fans and readers are on the One Year Book Plan. If you are you are, you should have written 8 pages or 2,000 words. Yay!

Some of my fans and readers are on the Write When You Can Plan, who tend to write most on weekends.

My thoughts are this, “I don’t care when or how much you write, as long as you write and you recognize that ‘Writers write.’”

Cheryl Holloway’s Personal Writing Thoughts

I firmly believe in My 3 P’s of Writing—passion, persistence, and practice. Here are my definitions:

Passion is a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something.

Persistence is firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition.

Practice is repeated exercise in or performance of an activity or skill so as to acquire or maintain proficiency in it.

Writing can be a lonely situation.

My downfall of writing is that I am alone most of the time, but at least I’m in good company. Since I am an introvert, it doesn’t really matter to me. When I come up for air, I visit with my writer friends, family and others. I have a sign in my office that reads: I live in my own little world, but it’s okay…they know me here!

When all else fails…I am still a Writer!

Cheryl Holloway Celebrates Veterans Day 2016

Veterans day

Veterans Day Celebrates the Service of All U.S. Military Veterans

On Veterans Day, put out your flags, cheer the marchers at parades, and go to tributes. But when you wake up the next day, Nov. 12, remember that it’s still Veterans Day for our veterans — and it will be every day of their lives.                                                 — Gen. Colin L. Powell, (Ret.)

If you know me, then you know that I am from a military family (several generations), and that I support the military all year long.  I am a firm believer…“Supporting Veterans Shouldn’t Only Happen on Veterans Day.”

Be reminded of the sacrifices military men and women in our country make and that for a combat veteran, the fight doesn’t end when the war does.

I think it’s critical that we’re giving back to our veterans. And remember that they need our help and recognition all year long, not just on Veterans Day.

So, there is no better way to appreciate veterans than to give back. If you can’t give back to them personally, give to an organization that supports veterans. Some organizations that help military vets and military families are Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, The American Legion, Vietnam Vets of America and Wounded Warriors. A new organization seems to appear with each new generation of military vets. So, I’m asking that you do your best to support at least one organization.

Thanks Vets

On this Veterans Day I ask, “What have you been doing to support our troops?”

God Bless our men and women in service—their dedication will never be forgotten.                                                                   ~Cheryl Holloway

A Compliment for Cougar Tales Box Set Books 1-3

It was a straight up, unsolicited, complimentary email sent for no other reason than to say, “Hey, I’m enjoying your book.”  I pay it forward all the time, but believe me when I receive a compliment like this I am overjoyed.

I have to tell you, that simple email put a big smile on my face and a warm feeling in my heart. It made my day. And it probably only took her a couple of minutes to write.

Boxed Setredo

This is what transpired…

Sep 16

Also, may I show my appreciation by purchasing, reading, and reviewing one of your books? Just let me know which one you’d like for me to review. Thanks again, Jada

Later that day…

I just purchased the box set and opened it in my reader. I immediately got drawn into Joi and Jon’s story. Wow, I’m just a few pages in, but it’s wonderful. Jon’s dad is getting on my last nerve 😉 I know what I’ll be doing tonight…spending it with Jon and Joi!

My response…

Thanks. I’m glad you’re enjoying the story. Cheryl

5 Stars Theme, Theory, and Trademark By Jada Ryker Verified Purchase

This review is from: Cougar Tales Series: Box Set Book 1-3 (Kindle Edition)

Joi is a smart woman who knows what she wants. She doesn’t settle for anything less than what she desires and deserves.

I love her three T’s…theme, theory, and trademark.

Her theme is age is just a number. Her theory is to enjoy who you enjoy and be happy. Her trademark is a purple rose. The rose looks fantastic against her ice-white suit.

The three stories explore Joi’s vitality and zest for life. Events take unexpected turns at times. Joi manages to turn with them. She is a survivor.

Sep 18

Joi resonated with me, and I continue to think about her. You did a great job with her and her stories! Jada

In My Opinion

Believe me, an unsolicited compliment is powerful. I’m sure that every one of us comes across opportunities like this every day. But do we act on them?

Make someone’s day with an unsolicited compliment. It’s warm and touching like a virtual hug. 😉

And readers, if you’re like me and would enjoy this box set, I suggest you pick up a copy at your earliest convenience.

Banner Header_2016

We Need You       You can do it too

Hi Readers and Fans!

My blog is still small, but I am getting more viewers and subscribers every day. The blog has grown steadily and quickly since inception. I have a growing population of engaged readers who are passionate about reading a variety of genres and authors; and who choose to support a pay-it-forward blog.

There are many wonderful authors out there and we all know how difficult it is to get recognition with the intense competition. So, I provide the pay-it-forward attitude on my blog.

What I provide:

  • Blog Posts 2-4 times a week, but always on Monday and Friday
  • A variety of Genres
  • A variety of Authors
  • Local Authors
  • International Authors
  • Celebrity Authors

Blog Readers demographics:

  • 66% female readers, 33% male readers, 1% other

Susciber Magnet

In addition to comments, I often receive feedback such as…

  • Cheryl, thank you so much for hosting me. I’m thrilled to be here. Shari Elder
  • Hi Cheryl, I’m delighted to say I’ve had a lot of feedback about this interview already. Thank you, once again, for inviting me onto your blog. Best, Sarah Stuart
  • I really love Cheryl’s philosophy of paying it forward. She has unselfishly helped me in my writing endeavors. She has also inspired me to help others. A neighbor of ours is a doctor from Syria (his daughter plays with our daughter). He is trying to get reinstated in the U.S. I have edited a number of his applications and resumes. Whenever I do this, I think of how Cheryl has helped me. Thank you, Cheryl, for being such a great role model, not just for me, but for others as well. Charles Lober
  • Thank you so much for the interview! LaShawn Vasser
  • Cheryl, Thanks again for the opportunity to realize invaluable exposure to your readers. So often writers see their work languish not merely because it isn’t worthy but due to a lack of places to let audiences know it’s out there! Again, thanks again. – Dwight Hobbs
  • Thanks for the great interview, Cheryl. I wonder if anyone who’s reading your blog right now would like to comment on what their greatest dream/goal is and if they have any of their own tips on how one can reach their truest dreams? Ashley Rice
  • What a great interview, Jeannie. I can’t wait to read your book! Best of luck with sales. 🙂 Casi McLean
  • Thanks Cheryl for the write up of my old typewriter. It’s funny because I never even thought about it that way after owning it all these years. You may have given me a story idea. I found that Underwood at an antique shop in West Virginia. Don’t worry…I didn’t ruin a good book for the centerpiece. It was an old dictionary that was ruined and falling apart so that’s why I used it. LOL I’m a lover of books as well…I’m a writer!!! Georgette Littlejohn
  • Thank you for the interview. LaToya Brown
  • Keep it up, Cheryl. Your work is so important. Everett Prewitt
  • Love this interview. Looking forward to reading more of Mr. Hobbs writings. Nalla Black
  • Thank you for interviewing one of my favorite authors! I have read each of her books. She writes in several genres and is quite natural in each. I’m not exactly a young adult now but I love this series. Ask me to pick a favorite Lisette Brodey novel and it’s virtually impossible. I love them all. I swear that I’m the lead character in Molly Hacker is Too Picky. I had a great deal of compassion for the protagonist in Squalor, New Mexico. Crooked Moon was another fave. Oh, good grief, I’m in danger of naming every book she has written! It was really interesting to read about her writing process. Darlene Arden
